About Dr. Nicholas V. Vancheri

  • Dr. Vancheri has lived and worked in Passaic County his entire life. Born and raised in Paterson to a family of first-generation immigrants to the United States, Dr. Vancheri comes from a long line of family educators. In addition, he proudly attended P.S. #27 and Don Bosco Technical High School in Paterson. Currently, Dr. Vancheri and his wife, Kathleen, and son, Nicholas, live in Totowa and are active in their local community.

    Dr. Vancheri began his career as a social studies teacher at Clifton High School in 2004. Although he taught a wide range of grade levels, he most enjoyed teaching American History II. During his time in the classroom, Dr. Vancheri led the school’s Quiz Bowl team and was named by the American Legion as Passaic County Educator of the Year in 2006. From 2008-2009, Dr. Vancheri served as Clifton’s Social Studies Supervisor (K-8).

    In 2011, Dr. Vancheri proudly returned to his hometown of Paterson as a school administrator. From 2011-2018, Dr. Vancheri served as Social Studies Supervisor (K-12), Principal of P.S. #7, and Principal of STEM Academy at the John F. Kennedy High School Educational Complex.

    In 2018, Dr. Vancheri joined the Northern Region ESC as its Director of Education. In this position, Dr. Vancheri assisted in elevating the Northern Region ESC to new heights. His work as Director of Education opened the door to becoming Superintendent of the Northern Region ESC upon the retirement of his predecessor in January of 2021.

    In his spare time, Dr. Vancheri mentors new school administrators in the NJL2L program, is a lector at his local church, and coaches PAL baseball. In addition, in April of 2023, Dr. Vancheri was elected to the Totowa Board of Education. 

    Dr. Vancheri is a proud three-time alumnus of Montclair State University, obtaining his BA in History and Secondary Education in 2004, M.Ed. in 2008, and Ph.D. in 2021. Dr. Vancheri’s doctoral dissertation is titled: Exploring Educators’ Decisions During the Era of New Professionalism: Teachers and Administrators Dialoguing Together in a Performance-Based Pay School District. In between his time at Montclair State University, Dr. Vancheri obtained his New Jersey principal certification through the NJEXCEL program (2012).
