After 24 years, Skylands School for the Exceptional was permanently closed as of June 30, 2022.
It is impossible to not feel sad after 24 incredible years at Skylands School. However, there is comfort in remembering all the wonderful things that have occurred over the course of those two plus decades.
There is a lasting legacy left by Skylands School. Before the formation of Skylands School, there was no acceptable school program to send children with medical fragility. Quite frankly, society was not nearly accommodating or accepting of people with disabilities 24 years ago.
Skylands School changed that narrative by providing a safe, fun, and true school environment. This environment allowed the children we all love so much to feel accepted and to receive the education they deserved. The closure of Skylands School will leave a space in all of our hearts, but we are proud of the achievements, lasting legacy, and most importantly, the memories of the great times had by the students, staff, and parents. In the simple yet powerful words of Dr. Seuss: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
Thank you all for your ongoing support and partnership.
