The Skylands School for the Exceptional Dedication

The Skylands School for the Exceptional dedicated its new classroom at Butler High School on Wednesday, 12/12/18. The move from our previous location in Bloomingdale to our new location at Butler High School quadrupled the size of our classroom and provided many of the benefits of a high school setting. Along with the heightened curricular offerings of a comprehensive high school, Skylands students participate in many extra-curricular activities led by Butler High School’s Student Government Association, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Choir—just to name a few! In addition, Butler High School students interested in potential careers in teaching and special education are provided with opportunities to support classroom and community-based instruction.

Skylands School is part of the Northern Region Educational Services Commission family. Its caring staff teaches and supports multiply disabled/medically fragile students from ages 3-21 in a transdisciplinary and multi-sensory academic setting. The dedicated staff consists of a full-time teacher, nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, and behaviorist, as well as instructional and personal aides. Skylands provides one-to-one and small group instruction as well as an opportunity for students to participate in an extended-school year.
